After reading Petrarch's sonnets, what can you interpret about this man's personality? Is he a man you would like as an admirer? Are his sonnets affectionate or creepy?
Response must be a minimum of 6 sentences. Proofread! Due Thursday, Sept. 30
After reading Petracrch's sonnets I have found that he is a very sensitive and passionate man. He shows a lot of his emotions in his poems. Petrarch pours out of his love for a girl named Laura witout any hesitation. It's also, very clear in his writing that he is easily hurt. I think I would find Petrarch creepy. I understand he wants to let this girl know how he feels, but he wrote more than one sonnet about her. I think one is enough. If Laura isn't returning the affection then it's time to stop.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petrarch's sonnets, I know that he's very strange. I wouldn't want him as an admirer because he seems really weird. He keeps writing these love poems and tries to get Laura's attention. In reality, she doesn't want anything to do with him. I feel his sonnets are creepy because he knows that she doesn't want him, yet he's still writing about her. To me, it seems more like stalking than being romantic.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petrarch’s sonnets, I thought of him as exceptionally creepy. He is constantly after this one woman who clearly does not return the favor. She is not only uninterested in him but married as well. I thought of him as being a rather persistent and hopeful fellow who is only led to disappointment in the end. I feel sorry for him, although he is still very creepy. He is a very good admirer though; he likes to comment about the woman's hair.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petrarch's sonnets, I came to the conclusion that he is very much in love with Laura. At the same time, he is so much in love with Laura that it is almost obsessive. I would not want him as an admirer. Even though his sonnets are sweet and show his undying love for her, it is a bit creepy. One or two poems of how he feels for her is good enough but to write three hundred or more poems about her is queer. Moreover, she doesn't like him in any way yet he believes she loves him too. Petrarch cannot seem to take a hint.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petrarch's sonnets, i feel that he is extremely stubborn. Laura continuously turns him down flat, and he somehow interprets it as her loving him. He feels optimistic about it, and even death cannot stop him from loving her. After Laura dies, he thinks that they will meet again in death, and be together and love eachother. I would not like to have this man as an admirer, because I've dealt with people like him before and it's not fun. I find him extremely creepy, he seems like he has a mental defect of some sort, that just makes him latch on to Laura. All I can say is, poor Laura.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petracrch's sonnets, I found that Petracrch himself is a very loyal and passionate man towards Laura. However, I do not find his affection to be flatering. If anything it is rather stalkerish and creepy. He continues writing about her even when she doesn't return the love, he should take a hint. I would not like to have him as an admirer. Only because I feel he would never give up and would constantly be infatuated with me, which would get old.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petrarch's sonnets I feel that he is kind of obsessive. He has a very loving and caring heart for Laura. He's also written so many poems about her, and even though she's not really interested in him, he never gives up and still loves her. It seems that he is so into her and loves her so much no other females seem to even cross his mind at all, which is very sweet. At first it could seem very creepy and weird, but to know that he has so much passion and love for this one person is very fascinating. Him even knowing that she doesn't feel the same way about him. It is also very clear that Petrarch's love will never change, not even Laura's affront.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petrarch's sonnets I saw that he was very passionate and sweet. Along with that I also saw that he was creepy and obsessive. He wrote hundreds of sonnets about the same woman, Laura, whom he loved. She did not love him back though and at that point he should have found a new topic for his poetry. I would not want him as an admirer because, like he said in "Laura" I would pity him and not be able to return the affection. I would not like someone who was so in love with me that no matter how much I told him “no” he would never stop. Petrarch, although a great poet, was not very good with love.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petrarch's sonnets, I could easily detect what kind of personality he had. He needed attention and affection constantly. In one of his sonnets, I interpreted one of the lines as him saying, "Once Laura died, the women swarmed me." So, he apparently had no problem with finding a mate. I think that he saw Laura, wanted her, realized he could not have her, and so he persued her. She would not give him any kind of aknowledgement, and that made him love her more, which made him blind to the things around him. He saw her bitterness as affection and would not let her go, even in death. I would hate to have somebody feel this way about me, even if I liked them back. Petrarch was way too "clingy" and a bit of a stalker. At first, I thought his sonnets about his love and affection towards Laura was sweet. But writing hundreds about her is something a crazy person would do. Yet, I feel Petrarch was only blinded by his love and eventually went crazy from it.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petrarch's poems, I found him to be very passionate and obsessive. He never gives up on his love for Laura after she repeatedly ignores and denies him. He is also very sweet, describing her as a very beautiful woman and not seeming to pay much attention to any of the other women around him. I do find Petrarch a very creepy person though, since he has written hundreds of poems about the same girl. A few would have been okay, but he went too far, especially since she didn't feel the same way as he did. I wouldn't want him as an admirer because I don't want a man who would never leave me alone, no matter how many times I told him "no". It would just get way too annoying and I wouldn't like it.He is way too obsessed with Laura. He even believes that they will be together forever, even in heaven. He just doesn't get the hint that Laura will never feel the same way and he needs to move on.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading some of Petrarch's sonnets I can tell he is very compassionate, and strong willed. On the other hand I learned he was extremely obsessive. He puts his heart and soul into each sonnet he writes about the mysterious Laura. His love for her is sweet but creepy at the same time. I would personally not want Petrarch to be my admirer. I would not want a man writing about my every move. Petrarch's sonnets are very passionate. Although his passion is to much for one women who does not give him the time of day. To himself, he was passionate. To Laura he was creepy.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Petrarch's sonnets, you learn a lot about what kind of person he is. He just doesn't give up, and is a bit creepy. It's one thing to be in love with someone who doesn't love you back. However, even after she dies, Petrarch continues writing sonnets about Laura. The way he talks about her is more than just affectionate, it's obsessive. A few poems would be sweet, but he wrote so many that it becomes odd.
ReplyDeletePetrarch's sonnets show that he remains loyal, even after death. Truly, it is a nice gesture. Though, I would not want him as an admirer because I do believe his sonnets are affectionate, but his unrequited love would be irritating, if nothing else. I think he is also a bit creepy. His undying, obsessive love coupled with the fact that he watches Laura and writes about her every beautiful move could get very disturbing. I would hate to be pursued by some man that I have rejected multiple times only to have him write love poems to me, instead.
