In "Sibi," we discussed the concepts of
dharma,
unattached work, and
caste. Keeping these concepts in mind, write one paragraph explaining your own personal dharma. Consider factors such as societal roles, duties, and morals when answering.
This blog will be due on Thursday, April 14 and will be worth 10 points.
Dharma is defined as a person's obligations and moral duties. As for my own personal dharma, I have many obligations that must be fulfilled. The most important duty I have is to conform to what my parents expect of me. They think highly of me, and expect me to succeed. Because of that, I work hard in school, get good grades, and take pride in the work that I do. As a result of working hard and taking care of my responsibilities, I am creating a good habit; hopefully, I will continue to meet the expectations of my parents, ultimately fulfilling my obligations.
ReplyDeleteIn the short story “Sibi” the king’s dharma was to take care of others. Mine, personally, I feel, is to be a good role model and leader. As Student Council treasurer, school store manager, Drama Club secretary and a LMTI representative it is my duty to be a good leader and be there for others as much as possible. As well, I am one of fifty YACs (Youth Advisory Counselor) for a statewide LMTI summer conference, which means I hold the integrity of LMTI in my hands. Because of this I have the obligation of being a good role model for others and the responsibility of keeping my word of living a healthy drug free life. Being an honors student also adds certain duties. I have a reputation that I have to maintain of getting good grades and always striving to do my best. Some of these obligations may be hard to fulfill at times, but they are a part of who I am and have shaped me into the person I am today.
ReplyDeleteAs a teenager, I am born into the role of a school-girl. I am expected to go to school daily, particapte, and try my hardest. Afterwards I should not play until all of my homework is done. My dharma is to be well behaved and obey these guidlines. I am obligated to put forth a lot of effort.
ReplyDeleteMy own personal dharma would be to follow important morals. These would be everyday morals like being kind and considerate to others. As far as caste, my role in society is to be a responsible citizen. An example of unattached work as a citizen would be community service. If I was asked to volunteer with something but had other plans, I guess I would have to give them up to volunteer for the community. it would be my duty to do so.
ReplyDeleteDharma is the principles and responsibilities which I am supposed to follow. I suppose my own dharma is governed by my morals: being generous, kind, hardworking, and so on. My 'unattached work' might be getting a good education because that is what is expected of me. As a high school student, I am obviously supposed to study and get the best grades I can, but because of who I am, my dharma includes trying my hardest to be one of the top students in the school. In order to accomplish this, sometimes I have to give up my free time in order to finish my work.
ReplyDeleteMy own personal Dharma is to set good examples for those younger than me. With my mother being a studio owner all of the children look to me as their role model. For them wanting to be just like me when they grow up is alot of responsibility. I must always do my best, look on the bright side no matter what the situation is, be supportive, and set myself apart from the rest. These are my obligations as being the owners daughter. It may not be easy all of the time but I know that it is what is expected of me and all of my personal dharma is to be fulfilled.
ReplyDeleteDharma is a person's obligations and responsibilities. I feel as thought my personal dharma consists of many things. I should be a good role model for others so they can look up to me. I should try my best, whether it is with grades, sports, or anything that I do. I must always be supportive and be there if anyone needs help or advice, even if I haven't personally experienced their problems. I should also follow common courtesy, being nice and respectful. I should take pride in everything that I do and learn from my mistakes. By doing these things, I can fulfill my personal dharma and become the person I am today and will be in the future.
