Introduce yourself to Mr. Ferro! This is my chance to get to know you better, so you can include any information you wish. Refer to the handout I distributed in class for potential discussion topics. Aim for two paragraphs. Remember to proofread!
Worth: 10 points
Due: Wednesday, March 30
I have an older brother named Chuck. I have had many pets over the years. Currently, I have a rabbit and a cat. I play field hockey and the violin. I've been playing field hockey for two years and the violin for five years. I would describe myself as friendly, eccentric, and temperamental. I went to Canada when I was about eight. My favorite movies are Mean Girls, 17 Again, Juno, and 500 Days of Summer. My favorite TV shows are Jersey Shore and The Office. My favorite subject in school is Math. One of my favorite books is The Book Thief. My favorite band is Mumford and Sons.
ReplyDeleteI would consider myself an auditory learner. I would rather work independently or in a group based on what the project is. Either one works for me. I like to read aloud. I know that after high school I'm going to continue my education in college, but as for now my future career is undecided.
I’ll introduce myself, too!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Frank Anthony Ferro. I’ve lived in the same house in Mantua, NJ my entire life with my mom, dad, two younger brothers (ages 20 and 18), and two dogs. I have a lovely girlfriend of five years named Kasey Hayes whom I love and adore; she’s helped me get through tough times, and we’ve helped each other survive college. I’m not a huge fan of snow; you’ll find me at the Jersey shore – either Ocean City or Wildwood – during most of the summer months. I am a devout Nintendo fan and, according to my parents, have been playing video games since I was one year old, at which time I picked up my first Nintendo controller and played the original Mario Bros. on the NES. I am also a huge survivor horror fan, my favorites being the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series. I also enjoy astronomy and camping; I often combine the two and camp in open fields or woods with Kas, my friends, and my beloved telescope in remote, dark places in order to observe the best views of the nighttime sky. It’s amazing how bad the light pollution is in most of the area, but you wouldn’t know unless you’ve witnessed the unblemished nighttime sky yourself and seen the Milky Way.
Before working at Pennsville, I worked at Daminger’s Natural Pet Foods in Sewell, NJ – a small, family-owned natural pet foods store – and at Kohl’s Department Store. I didn’t care for the latter the least bit, but the former was a fun place to work. I learned a lot there and the owners treated me like family. I worked there for six years and recently quit to join all of you at Pennsville.
I have such an extensive list of favorite movies that I cannot name one, but I love any movies with Mel Gibson and Jim Carrey for sure. If I had to pick, I’d say Jurassic Park, Signs, Braveheart, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Lethal Weapon, and 28 Days Later, in no particular order. As far as TV shows go, Family Guy is definitely on the top of my list (Seasons 1-3 especially), but I also like South Park, Archer, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
I graduated from Clearview Regional High School in 2006 and enrolled at Gloucester County College for the following fall semester. At county college I majored in Liberal Arts because I had such a hard time settling on one particular major. I had an awesome professor at Gloucester County College that made me fall in love with English. After spending two years at GCC, I transferred to Rowan University as an English and Education major. I graduated from Rowan University in December 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Subject Matter Education.
As an English major I love short stories (Poe, O’Connor, Faulkner, Chopin, Crane, and Melville), poetry of all genres (particularly those of the Romantic and Transcendentalist eras), and Shakespeare’s plays (Hamlet and Macbeth). I can provide two favorite novels: Lord of the Flies and Catch-22. This list, however, is ever-changing as I add more novels to it as time progresses.
Growing up, I always possessed a love for music. I played the saxophone from 4th through 11th grades in the school orchestra and jazz band (don’t ask why I quit my senior year), and I have been in a few different bands since 11th grade as a bass guitar player. I’m always looking to learn a new instrument; I recently took up the Irish whistle and I’d like to try the violin soon. As for my musical tastes, I am into a variety of genres from punk rock/ska (Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, and NOFX) and Irish punk/folk (Flogging Molly, The Tossers, and Dropkick Murphys) to classic rock (Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith) and funk (Primus). I recently got into Mumford and Sons and have had that band’s CD playing through my car stereo for a good part of the last month.
This is pretty long-winded, so I think you know as much about me as I’m willing to share (ha ha). I hope you find this blog at least somewhat fun, and I look forward to reading all of your blog posts and sharing the rest of the school year with you!
Hello, I'm Erin. I'm an only child. I'm left handed, which I think is awesome. Not many people can spell or pronounce my last name correctly. I would describe myself as quiet, giggly, and friendly. I'm not that good at sports but I've played field hockey for about 5 years. I love animals. I currently have two cats named Snickers and Punkin and a Hamster named Bella. I play violin, piano, and guitar. I've played violin for about 5 years, piano for about 2, and I just started guitar a few months ago. I'm in the school orchestra, as well as the school's Strolling Strings and Riverview Chamber. I like singing and I'm told I'm good, but I don't like singing for people. I don't watch a lot of television but my favorite show is Glee. I play video games a lot, especially Super Mario Bros. and Pokemon. My favorite movie is 500 Days of Summer and I can't even count how many times I've watched it. I listen to music as much as possible. My favorite bands are Mumford and Sons, Owl City, and All Time Low. I don't go on vacation that much, not even in the summer. I've never been out of the country, but I hope to visit Germany, Australia, and England before I die. I like reading; I mostly read love or mystery books. My favorite book is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I'd rather read silently than aloud. My favorite subject in school is either math or German. After high school, I hope to attend college. I want to be either a teacher or veterinarian.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Briana Theresa Cunningham. I am a very active person and love to stay busy. I have danced since I was three years old and have been dancing on a competition team since 6th grade. That same year I joined the school choir. I do not play any instruments, although I would love to learn. In 8th grade I participate in the high school play as Brigitta in The Sound of Music, then last year as the coroner in The Wizard of Oz, and this year I was a bird girl (doo-wop girl) in Seussical. As part of our summer theater I was Sally Brown in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Bashful in Snow White, and Jasmine in Aladdin. In 8th grade I began cheerleading and that has become a large part of my life.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite movie is between P.S. I Love You, Hercules, Hoodwinked, Enchanted, the little Mermaid, never Say Never, and The Last Song. My favorite television show is Criminal Minds. I spend most of my life with some sort of music playing and I love to listen to just about every type of music. I absolutely love 80’s, hip-hop, and anything contemporary. I especially love Irish music such as my favorite group, Celtic Thunder, and also Celtic Women. Some other favorite artists are Josh Radin, Adele, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Justin Bieber. Along with that I listen to Michael Buble who sings a modern jazz music. I love animals, but sadly cannot have any pets that shed because most of my family is allergic to their hair. Instead we substitute them with fish, turtles, hamsters, and chickens.
I am not exactly sure what learning style I prefer because I tend to incorporate all of them in some way. I like to listen to a teacher read notes aloud and explain what we are learning but I also like to practice whatever skill we are currently working on with note cards and worksheets. When I read, I like to read independently, but then discuss the reading aloud, as a group. In general classes, where not all of the students participate, I prefer to work alone, but in an honors setting I think it is helpful to work in groups and to share our ideas and opinions with each other. After high school I plan to go to college but as of now I am still not sure what I want to go for.
As a family I have a mom and a dad, of course, and two younger sisters. Some other seemingly random things about me are that I love Disney Princesses, I love bright colors, I am the biggest procrastinator in the world, and that I absolutely love clothes. If I had to describe myself in three words they would probably be active, bubbly, and independent. I think that is just about everything there is to know about me. :)
My hobbies are Postcrossing and knitting. I am vegan. My favorite movie is Fetching Cody and my favorite tv show is Parks and Recreation. I live with a dog named Maggie and my parents. I have not travelled to any other countries, but I'm going to Italy in the summer of 2012.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite band is Annuals, and I enjoy Bartók and Mahler. I've been playing the cello for six years, and I intend to begin on the violin this summer. I'm in Pennsville's instrumental academy, as well as Pennsville's string orchestra, quartet, "Strolling Strings" ensemble, and Riverview Chamber Ensemble. I am in my first year of Rowan Youth Orchestra, and have auditioned for and been accepted into South Jersey Orchestra for the past three years.
My favorite subject in school is science. I do most poorly in English, actually. I prefer to work independently and read silently. I think I'm a visual learner, but I'm not really sure. After high school, I plan to go to college, although I don't know what I am going to major in or what I'll do afterward.
My favorite subject in school is History. I don't really know what my learning style is, and I don't really prefer a certain one. I usually prefer working in a group then by myself. I like to read silently. I don't really have a favorite literacy work, only because there are so many good ones. Books that I enjoy reading currently include; Harry Potter, Firefly Lane, Angels and Demons, and a lot of Stephen King. I would describe myself as; friendly, honest, and laid-back. I don’t know what I’m going to do after high school, but I definitely want to attend college.
ReplyDeleteMy hobbies are; traveling, hanging out with my friends, reading, and playing on the computer. I play the cello and the piano. I have two birds. I have been playing the cello for five years, and I have been playing the piano for two years. I love all types of music. My favorite bands/singers are; 3OH!3, The Beatles, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Usher. I also enjoy classical music such as, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. My favorite TV shows include; The Office, That 70’s Show, Dexter, Tosh.0, and Jersey Shore. I have so many favorite movies that it would be impossible to list them all, so here are a few; Edwards Scissorhands, V for Vendetta, I’m Not There, The Dark Night, Date Night, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Angels and Demons, and basically anything with Heath Ledger, Leonardo Dicaprio, Steve Carell, and Mark Wahlberg. I have traveled to other countries. I have been to every continent except Antarctica, and I do dream to travel there someday.
My name is Amanda Dilks and I am 15 years Old. My hobby is dance, my mother actually owns a studio that I attend and I have been dancing since before I can remember. I love most all scary movies but my favorite would have to be Silent Hill or Titanic even though it is not scary. My favorite TV shows are Criminal Minds and Silent Library. My favorite music is anything Rihanna and also Lady Gaga I love all of her music but i also love everything she believes in, expressing your individuality is something I strive to see in people. I have two pets, both dogs a Chocolat Lab and a Shi-tzu I love them both more then anything! I have been out of the country before to the bahamas to swim with dolphins and I will also be going to Italy in 2012.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite subject in school would have to be biology/science I have always loved it! My favorite literary work is the Langston Hughues poem Dream Deferred. I play the Oboe and I have played the Oboe in the school band for five years now! My learning style is tactile/Kinesthetic. If given the choice i would rather read aloud and work in groups. After high school I have three paths I would like to choose from being either Dance, Modeling/Acting, or going to college for dentistry. Three words to describe me would be energetic, blunt, and different (I dont like blending in with the crowd haha)!

ReplyDeleteI'm Rebecca Claxton, but most of my friends just call me Claxton. I spend most of my time either writing or reading. (That's not sucking up, it's the truth.) My dream is to write novels when I'm older, but I also want to be a math professor. I have a visual and auditory learning style (it's pretty much half and half), and I prefer to work independently. If I were to describe myself in three words, they would probably be academic, realistic, and creative.
ReplyDeleteI love the classics: music, movies, TV shows, but not literature. My favorite movies are Across the Universe, The Princess Bride, and Bean the Movie. Steve Martin is my favorite actor, so all of his movies qualify, too (especially The Pink Panther, which I have memorized). My favorite shows are Boy Meets World and Criminal Minds. My favorite music genre is classic rock; my favorite band is The Beatles. As for books, I love science fiction and fantasy. I don't really have a favorite right now, though.
So far, I have never been out of the country, but I plan on traveling all over Europe, especially to Italy (mostly for the food). I have had so many pets in my life, but right now, I just have fish and cats. PumpkinSpice, my orange tabby, is my baby. Someday, I want to have a ranch of some sort where I can finally own an ostrich, my favorite animal. Hopefully, it will be in Maine, my favorite place in the world.
Hola, my name is Cassie, and in three words I would describe myself as fun, loving, and a little bit crazy. I have a brother named Mike who is two years older than me. I have two dogs and two fish. The dogs are named Muffin and Biscuit, and the fish are named Sapphire and Garnet. I like to play racing videogames like Need for Speed and GranTurismo, and the only sport I play is basketball. One of my favorite hobbies is collecting die cast models of the cars I like.
ReplyDeleteI love watching French movies and my all-time favorite is A Very Long Engagement. I also like action thrillers like Gladiator, Die Hard, and 300. I rarely watch television, but I always save time on Monday nights to watch Castle, and I am obsessed with Scooby Doo. The only instrument I play is piano, and I have been playing for a little over a year now. I do not play for school, although my grandma is always begging me to play for her. I like listening to all music with the exception of country, but my favorite bands are Pearl Jam and The Black Keys.
I am not sure what my favorite subject in school is, but I know I absolutely hate Spanish. I would say I am a visual learner and I would rather work in a group than alone, depending on the project. I prefer to read silently, and find it hard to pay attention when things are read aloud. I love reading historical fiction, and my favorite book is The Fifth of March by Ann Rinaldi. I have been to Mexico and Canada various times throughout my life (I much prefer Mexico). After high school, I plan to go to college for screen writing or pharmacy. Of course I would prefer to be a screen writer.
My name is Blair Marie Waddington. I am a very active person and I never have a dull moment. I play soccer and softball. I love watching movies and my favorite one is Forrest Gump, along with many others. Every Wednesday me and my two older sisters watch our favorite TV show, The Real World. My favorite subject would have to be English because I love to interpret things and express my opinions on different works. Shakespeare and Petrarch are my two favorite writers, I enjoy poems, the concept of love, and their word choice.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy all genres of music, but my favorite band is Aerosmith, I love Steven Tyler. Since sixth grade I have played the clarinet in my high school band and hope to continue to for the rest of my high school career. I do not have one dominant style of learning, I think its important to acquire all different ways. I prefer to work independently and read silently.
I have three Golden Retrievers that I love deeply. I have been to the Bahamas on vacation once and next summer I am going to Italy with the school. I have never been so excited in my life for anything. I have a very bold personality, I am outgoing, opinionated, and at sometimes sarcastic but I love to have fun. At the same time I am loving and caring and would do anything for anyone. After school I plan on attending college to become either a teacher or veterinarian. One day I hope to get married and start a family of my own.
